I was just reading this on Yahoo Finance..."HOW BEING CHEAP WILL LEAVE YOU BROKE!"

This was #7
Letting Coupons Shop for You
You can find any number of blogs and websites dedicated to the fine art of coupon shopping. Buying a product at the discounted price you get with a coupon is certainly cheaper than paying full-price -- no one's arguing with that concept. However, if coupon clipping leads you to make purchases you wouldn't normally make, it's money wasted, not money saved. Only use coupons if they apply to your normal and needed purchase items. Otherwise, skip the coupon and skip the purchase altogether.

My 2 cents!

I DO think there is some truth to this. I have said before that I won't burn up $5 in gas to get a "free" chapstick. I think you have to be accountable for the shopping decisions you make. I have a strict weekly budget of $80 that includes everything from dog food to gluten free items for lil chick. With that being said I cannot spend $30 at Walgreens on nonessentials. I have to make a list, make a menu plan and stick to it. We also eat a lot of fresh veggies and fruit so I price match those to get the best savings. For example if I can get Tresemme Shampoo for $2.12 a bottle using a coupon I will pass! Why because I can hold out for a better sale and I am not brand loyal so honestly Sauve or VO5 make me just as happy! Just because you have a coupon doesn't make it a good deal. It can be so overwhelming and exhilarating, getting things for free or nickels and dimes but believe me those nickels and dimes add up!

  1. You are totally right. I have that problem sometimes. That is when I call my sister and ask her what she thinks. She then helps me decide if it is a good deal or not. And 99% of the time I put the item back. JUST BECAUSE I HAVE A COUPON, DOES NOT MEAN IT IS A GOOD DEAL!!!! That is what she always tells me. Thanks Sister Chick!
